Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a Phlebotomist to support its laboratory operations on a contract basis with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and processing that supports quality patient care and diagnostic testing.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance and decontamination data
• Update patient information and maintain accurate records
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
