• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.

Location: Winston Salem, NC (and surrounding area) | Schedule: Full-time, contract, on-site (Monday–Friday 5:00am–5:30pm, possible Saturday hours, 8-hour shifts) | Compensation: Not specified

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its lab operations team on a contract basis with potential for permanent placement. This is a float position covering multiple locations in the area, playing a key role in accurate specimen collection and lab workflow support.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Travel between float locations as assigned; mileage expense paid
