Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling, supporting quality patient care across pediatric and geriatric populations.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Update patient information accurately
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place in appropriate containers/tubes, and label accurately, following protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department training sessions
  • Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
  • Assist with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations
Required qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Pediatric and geriatric experience required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
