Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED, minimum 2 years of experience.
• Prior hospital experience required.
• Must wear N95 mask and Red scrubs.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination tasks.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection methods to patients clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Follow physicians' orders accurately and promptly.
• Match requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check test requisitions against labels to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport with proper labeling and temperature controls.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer calls and relay laboratory results to inquiries.

Overview

A healthcare provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis with potential for permanent placement. This role is vital to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling that supports patient diagnostics and care.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination tasks
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, maintaining required temperature and labeling standards
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
