Job summary

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis for a projected duration of 3 months, with strong potential for permanent placement.

The role requires phlebotomy certification, 6 months of venipuncture experience, and 2 years of overall lab experience. On-site schedule is 6am-2:30pm, M-F, with benefits available and on-site work in Davenport, FL.

Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy certification required for the state of employment where applicable.
  • Minimum 6 months' venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of overall laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities.
  • Update patient information as needed.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.
  • Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling, supporting patient care and diagnostic accuracy.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities

  • Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles

  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy

Required qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some states
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
