Job summary

OSF HealthCare is seeking a Weekend Phlebotomist to collect blood and specimens from a variety of patients, ensuring proper labeling and timely transport to the lab. The role requires adherence to aseptic techniques and accurate documentation.

Six weeks of orientation and training are required. Strong interpersonal skills, computer proficiency, and attention to detail are essential for success in a fast-paced lab environment within OSF HealthCare.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood and other specimens from inpatients, outpatients, ED patients, extended care facility patients, physician offices, clinics and other locations.
• Label specimens and transport them to the laboratory for analysis.
• Perform clerical and/or computer duties related to the laboratory.
• Maintain aseptic technique and patient safety during phlebotomy procedures.

Expected pay for this position is $17.66 - $19.63/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Weekends Only The Phlebotomist obtains blood and other specimens from inpatients, outpatients, ED patients, extended care facility patients, physician office patients, clinic patients, and any other offsite location patients for laboratory testing according to licensed physician’s or provider’s orders. In doing so, obtains needed supplies, verifies patient identification, prepares skin sites, and performs venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens and transports same to laboratory for analysis. Performs clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory. Duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• High School/GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

• Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months’ full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent 6 months customer service experience.

License/Certifications:

• CPR Certification.
• Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT).
