Job summary

YNHHS is seeking a Phlebotomist in Rhode Island to obtain blood samples from inpatients and outpatients and perform essential clerical duties including patient registration into the HIS. The role emphasizes accuracy, patient privacy, and basic lab operations.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, accessioning, customer service per AIDET, professional interaction with staff, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Prior phlebotomy experience and a valid driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior phlebotomy experience.
• Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred. Must have a current driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy using proper patient identification and specimen labeling.
• Accessioning and receiving specimens into the laboratory.
• Provide customer service using AIDET principles and ensure patient comfort and privacy.
• Interact professionally with all hospital staff.
• Review patient vouchers and registrations for accuracy and correct them as needed.
• Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens and order tests in the hospital/laboratory systems.
• Comply with universal precautions and safety policies.
• Maintain cleanliness of courier vehicle if applicable.

Qualifications

Education

High school graduate or GED

Experience

Prior experience in phlebotomy.

LICENSURE

Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred. Must have a current driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
