Job description

Job Summary

Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Transport, process, and perform clerical duties as needed for testing on patient samples.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
• Draw blood specimens from patients using finger sticks, heel sticks, or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
• Label specimens accurately and enter specimen data into the computer.
• Prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
• Assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls.

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience required, or certification through a clinical phlebotomy program may be considered in lieu of experience.
• Acute‑care hospital experience strongly preferred.
• Skilled phlebotomy technique and BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
