Job Summary
Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Transport, process, and perform clerical duties as needed for testing on patient samples.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
- Draw blood specimens from patients using finger sticks, heel sticks, or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
- Label specimens accurately and enter specimen data into the computer.
- Prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
- Assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls.
Licensure / Certification / Registration
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience required, or certification through a clinical phlebotomy program may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Acute‑care hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Skilled phlebotomy technique and BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
