Job Summary And Qualifications

Phlebotomist

The Phlebotomist performs blood draws on patients who need diagnostic testing. The Phlebotomist is supervised by and works with the RNs to achieve timely pre-procedure blood draws and testing. The Phlebotomist must have interpersonal skills to successfully interact with patients, families, team members, physicians, and ancillary staff.

  • You will demonstrate knowledge of physiology and function of the venous system of the human body, and collection techniques used to draw blood from patients.
  • You will collect blood samples from patients per laboratory policy and procedure.
  • You will decide the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
  • You will practice proper patient identification.
  • You will label blood vials according to established procedures including use of automated patient identification systems.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified phlebotomy course (strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy experience.
  • Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with all co-workers, staff, patients, patient families and vendors.
  • Good phlebotomy, computer, and communication skills.
