Job Responsibilities
  • Perform all forms of phlebotomy procedures including registration on any age level, process specimens to ensure stability, perform order entry procedures to ensure accuracy of patient/testing information, and provide all laboratory results to providers.
  • Obtain blood samples by performing venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks on any age level, using aseptic techniques and following established procedures.
  • Enter all patient information into the hospital system, verify patient demographics, update and verify insurance, and administer ABN as needed.
  • Organize and distribute workload in phlebotomy, including routine, time-specific, or stat orders, to ensure timely results to providers.
  • Order tests in the computer system and contact physicians regarding test requests when necessary.
  • File/Scan scripts and insurance information, and prepare reports for delivery to physicians' offices if needed.
  • Prepare samples for courier pickup and/or deliver samples to the appropriate department, ensuring specimen integrity.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies needed for continuous service, minimizing downtime.
  • Clean and maintain phlebotomy work areas and carts following established procedures.
  • Assist with training new employees.
  • Perform phlebotomy at assigned locations as determined by the manager to meet departmental needs.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications

A high school diploma and a minimum of six months of job-related experience or equivalent are required. All employees hired during or after 2012 must have Phlebotomy certification.
