Job summary

Job description

Under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor, this position is responsible to patient care and venipuncture in the clinic or ambulatory setting. The Phlebotomist will perform administrative and clinical tasks to ensure clinic operations run smoothly and efficiently. Duties and responsibilities may range from but are not limited to, recording vital signs, explaining venipuncture procedures, preparing patients for procedures, and assisting patients under duress. The Phlebotomist must maintain adherence to policies, procedures and regulations of the Company and participate in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy and goals of the company. The Phlebotomist will interact with other departments, clinic personnel, and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers.

• Perform phlebotomy through venous and capillary puncture following established procedures in accordance with age specific considerations of patients.
• Practice proper patient identification, especially when working in a fast-paced environment
• Practice proper labeling of vials with patient names and dates.
• Must be able to decipher the best method of drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
• Must understand the drop-off and pick-up procedures relating to specimen samples.
• Ability to centrifuge blood samples.
• Responsible for gathering medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes.
• Ability to help nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws.
• Exhibit proper phone etiquette.
• Performs sterile technique setup and maintain sterile field when necessary.
• Responsible for following the Standard/Universal Precautions by hand washing, using PPE, basic knowledge of infection control and medical waste management.
• Responsible for data entry and management of procedures.
• Responsible for activating the Chain of Command if there are abnormal vital signs which is to report to MD/provider immediately.
• Responsible to ensure the monthly checks of the supplies and medications are checked and logs are up to date.
• Responsible for sterilizing and disinfecting surgical instruments: autoclave instruments, preparation, and operation.
• Initiate/participate in Code White, Code Blue, and Code Red situations are they arise within scope of practice.
• Responsible for managing the 'tasks' which includes clearing task inbox daily, send and receiving tasks.
• Handle complaints in a responsible and professional manner.
• Maintain a clean work area.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

8.1 High school diploma or equivalent

8.2 Valid State of California Phlebotomy Certification.

8.3 Current BLS certification.

8.4 Completion of an approved phlebotomy training course (or equivalent)

8.5 Minimum of one (1) year experience as a phlebotomist.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be reasonably between $26.58 and $31.27. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

If hired, employee will be in an \"at-will position\" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
