Job description

Job Description:

Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practices, in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement.

Job Specifics:
  • Full time - 7 on 7 off working overnight shifts
  • Location: McKay Dee Hospital
  • Benefits Eligible
  • Sign-on Bonus Eligible - $1750

The Phlebotomist II is an experienced phlebotomist with advanced skills in phlebotomy and specimen processing. In addition to basic Phlebotomist I responsibilities, they may act as a Team Lead or Trainer, assist with adverse event investigations, research study coordination, moderate complexity testing, and may fulfill functions of a Coordinator or Supervisor in their absence.

They communicate procedures and instructions compassionately with patients, family members, and other caregivers, demonstrating empathy during every interaction. The Phlebotomist II may also be responsible for deescalating stressful situations calmly and respectfully. Opportunities for growth include:

  • Serving as a patient and clinical staff liaison
  • Technical writing

  • Leading continuous improvement projects
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by site or department leadership
Minimum Qualifications for Phlebotomist 1:
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers
  • Ability to take on-call shifts as needed
  • Flexibility to work in other facilities as required
  • Adherence to all personal protective requirements in inpatient and outpatient settings
Minimum Qualifications for Phlebotomist 2:
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers
  • Advanced skills typically acquired with experience in a clinical or hospital setting
  • Experience working in a team under stressful conditions
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights
  • Ability to take on-call shifts as needed
  • Flexibility to work at other facilities as required
  • Adherence to all personal protective requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years’ prior phlebotomy experience or one year of Intermountain phlebotomy experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent for CLIA compliance
  • Previous leadership experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to see, read labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies
  • Frequent verbal communication with patients, providers, and visitors, including during emergencies
  • Manual dexterity for manipulating delicate equipment and computer use
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist with patient mobility and transport supplies
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and navigate busy environments
  • For roles requiring driving: ability to operate a vehicle safely
Work Location:

Intermountain Health McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, Utah

Work Schedule:

35 hours per week, with hourly rates ranging from $18.12 to $23.55 depending on experience
