Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is hiring a Phlebotomist to obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and perform various waived screening tests across age groups. You will support lab supply inventory and perform related clerical duties while maintaining patient and staff collaboration under the Laboratory Services Director.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, enrollment in the NH+C RQI BLS program with 90 days to complete CPI and CPI within six months, plus excellent English

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in NH+C RQI program for BLS; complete within 90 days of enrollment.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
  • Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.
  • Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred.
  • Previous experience in health-related field helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies positive patient identification and test requisitions/orders for laboratory testing.
  • Obtains blood specimens using venipunctures and fingersticks.
  • Maintains specimen integrity and meets specimen requirements at collection.
  • Processes specimens to prepare samples for laboratory testing.
  • Performs/maintains competency for lab testing as directed by Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Performs quality control and instrument checks for the applicable tests.
  • Assists with laboratory supply inventory, stocking and ordering.
  • Performs clerical functions in the laboratory department.
  • Practices Universal Body Substance Precautions.

Summary

The Phlebotomist position, underthe direct supervision of the Laboratory Technical Supervisor, obtains and prepares specimens for analysisand alsoperforms various waived screening tests on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Assistswith lab supply inventory and various clerical duties. The Phlebotomistmaintainsa cooperative working relationship with patients, patients’families, medical staff, and interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel.Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.

Compensation

We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, educationand internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is$18.02—$25.43 (35).This range reflects the base wagefor this position.

Key Accountabilities

Verifies positive patient identification and test requisitions/orders for laboratory testing.

Obtains blood specimens using proper aseptic techniques including venipunctures andfingersticks.

Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection andmaintainsspecimen integrity.

Processes specimens to prepare samples for laboratory testing.

Performs/maintainscompetency for lab testing as directed by Laboratory Technical Supervisor.

Performs quality control and instrument checks for the applicable tests.

Assistswith laboratory supply inventory, including stocking and ordering as needed.

Performs clerical functions associated with the laboratory department.

Practices Universal Body Substance Precautions.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Must be enrolled inNH+C RQI program for BLS certification and complete the requirements within90 daysof enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).

Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.

Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy program

Previousexperience or education in a health-related field helpful

Good interpersonal communication skills

Ability to receive and carry out directions

Schedule
  • 64 hours per two-week pay period (0.8 FTE)
  • Monday–Friday, with shifts scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Primary work locations include the Northfield Clinic and Jefferson Road Clinic
  • Weekend and holiday coverage as needed
  • Eligible for Shift Differential Pay in addition to base wage
