Job description

Responsibilities

Performs blood collections from patients, ensuring safety and comfort, following established standards. Provides direct patient care to individuals of all ages. Handles Front Office duties such as dispatching phlebotomists, answering phones, ordering lab tests, checking logs, receiving and delivering specimens, and other related responsibilities. Also manages specimen receipt into the Lab from the tube system and other processing duties as assigned.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1. Dispatches and tracks Support Assistants efficiently.
2. Possesses knowledge and skills in routine venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
3. Knows specimen collection procedures for blood bank transfusions.
4. Accurately identifies patients according to the procedure.
5. Understands and prepares specimens for analysis in the pre-analytical phase.
6. Documents and follows up on specimen integrity issues, communicating with Dispatch for recollections if needed.
7. Utilizes hospital and laboratory information systems effectively.
8. Adheres to policies regarding the operation and security of lab information systems.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
10. Maintains the specimen collection area and equipment.
11. Participates in Phlebotomy education efforts.
12. Follows infection control guidelines.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Proficiency in conversational English for communication, safety, and organizational tasks.
• Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of hospital and lab information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous healthcare experience and familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office.
• Certification from a nationally accredited agency.
