Job summary

Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, WY is seeking a Phlebotomy Assistant to collect specimens, label accurately, and support clinical staff with timely lab results. You will use laboratory information systems to register patients, order tests, and transmit daily reports.

Responsibilities

• Draw blood using vacutainers and syringes; place lancets for capillary testing.
• Collect blood cultures and glucose tests as ordered.
• Label specimens and requisitions accurately.
• Enter patient data and orders into computer systems; manage specimens and daily reports.
• Assist Lab Manager and pathologists with clerical tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Base salary starts at $17.30/hr.

• Demonstrate proper use of vacutainers and syringes depending on patient’s veins and placements of IV’s, and a lancet in areas in which capillary action is best.
• Performs blood cultures and glucose tolerance tests and other specimen collections as ordered.
• Properly labels all specimens and requisitions.
• Utilizes computer systems for patient registration, lab test orders, receiving specimens and daily reports.
• Performs clerical duties for the Lab Manager and pathologists as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

E X P E R I E N C E

• At least one (1) year experience preferred, unless currently certified by the ASCP or equivalent.

C R E D E N T I A L S

• Phlebotomist trainees will not exceed 24 months of employment without becoming ASCP certified after being eligible to take the certification exam.
• Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone.
• Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers and the general public verbally and in writing.
• Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to establish priorities effectively.
