Summary

Performs patient services such as: Phlebotomy, EKG (as required), DNA collections, and specimen collections on routine and STAT basis. Handles test ordering, clerical duties, and specimen processing, including accessioning and preparing specimens for transport. Projects a positive image of LVHN, focusing on patient care and customer relations.

Job Duties
  • Performs venipunctures, capillary, POCT, EKG, PKU, DUI, Drug Screen, and DNA collections for all age groups as required.
  • Properly identifies patients and labels specimens accurately. Processes and stores specimens according to protocols.
  • Clarifies test orders, reviews requisitions, logs courier calls, and arranges specimen pickups.
  • Handles workload efficiently, often working alone or extended hours, and prioritizes tasks effectively.
  • Enters data into LIS and HIS systems, obtains specimens from various hospital departments, and uses all relevant systems and equipment.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proficient computer skills, excellent communication, and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of blood collection practices and regulations
  • Medical terminology coursework or experience
  • Good interpersonal skills for patient and provider interactions
  • Ability to build reports and convey information effectively
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and PPE usage
  • Successful completion of training and proficiency within 90 days
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical School Diploma or 1-year phlebotomy experience
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification or PBT certification in Pennsylvania
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs., perform patient transfers, and stand/walk frequently. Activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR.
