Job summary

Finger Lakes Health in Geneva General Hospital seeks a compassionate Phlebotomist to collect blood samples from patients of all ages and to ensure accurate handling from collection through initial processing. You will uphold patient care standards, confidentiality, and teamwork in a fast-paced lab setting.

Under supervision, you will perform QA/QC activities, follow SOPM procedures, and support Medical Technologists as needed, while maintaining a respectful patient experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid New York State driver's license with a driving record that meets FLH policy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages in accordance with established procedures, policies, and accepted practices.
• Safely and accurately manage specimens from collection through the initial processing and handling stages.
• Prioritize patient care and specimen collection according to established triage standards.
• Follow all laboratory policies and procedures outlined in the SOPM.
• Demonstrate proficiency in required testing and specimen collection procedures.
• Identify and address problems or issues, including contacting service hotlines or representatives when needed.
• Perform QA/QC activities.
• Provide laboratory support to the Laboratory Support Services Supervisor or qualified Medical Technologist as requested.
• Maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful approach with patients, families, and coworkers.
• Protect patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Support Services Supervisor, the Phlebotomist is responsible for safely and accurately collecting blood specimens from patients of all ages while providing a positive and respectful patient experience.

Qualifications
