Job summary

Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation in Washtenaw County, Michigan, seeks a Philanthropic Advisor to lead planned giving and deepen relationships with professional advisors. You will guide philanthropic strategy and work with donors to maximize impact, while supervising the Donor Engagement Coordinator to enhance donor cultivation and stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on knowledge of modern development and communications tools (CRM, databases, spreadsheets, online research services).
  • At least three years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • Experience in new business development of high-net-worth individuals preferred.
  • Comfort speaking to individuals and groups of all sizes.
  • Familiarity with Washtenaw County issues, nonprofits, donors, and communities preferred.
  • Technologically proficient with Microsoft Office and cloud-based systems.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Philanthropic Advisor supports AAACF’s mission by working collaboratively as part of the donor services team to provide philanthropic strategy, planning, and execution aligned with the Foundation’s goals and objectives. The Advisor will lead efforts to advance planned giving strategies and strengthen relationships with professional advisors (financial planners, attorneys, CPAs) to expand philanthropic impact. This position also supervises the Donor Engagement Coordinator to support donor cultivation and stewardship.

Compensation & Benefits:

Starting pay is $65,000 – $85,000, based on experience and relevant expertise. AAACF also provides a generous benefits package including Company-paid training, excellent health/dental/vision benefits, 403(b) with match, and company paid life/STD/LTD. Generous paid time off and paid holiday schedule.

Education & Credentials:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the nonprofit sector is required. A graduate degree is preferred.

Experience:

A hands-on knowledge of modern development and communications tools (such as development software, CRM, databases, spreadsheets, and online research services) is strongly preferred. Previous experience working in professional setting with at least three (3) years of non-profit fundraising experience. Experience in new business development of high-net-worth individuals is preferred. Experience and comfortability speaking to individuals and groups of all sizes. Familiarity with Washtenaw County issues, nonprofits, donors, and communities is preferred. Technologically savvy with advanced computer skills, including proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams), database programs, Internet and various cloud-based systems.

Other Requirements:

Proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity, equity and inclusion. Strong communication, written and verbal and interpersonal skills. Flexible, responsive, and collaborative work style with a strong service mentality. Familiarity with nonprofit funding.

Primary Work Location:

The Philanthropic Advisor must reside in Washtenaw County, Michigan and be willing to travel throughout the county as needed. Onsite attendance at AAACF’s Ann Arbor office five days per week is required.
