Waymo LLC in Mountain View, California, invites motivated PhD students to join our hybrid onsite internship and work at the intersection of AI, neuroscience, and cognitive science to advance the Waymo Driver.

You will survey the state-of-the-art in digital neuroscience and mechanistic interpretability, develop models of human driving behavior, and explore how internal mechanisms of these models can be interpreted and explained.

Qualifications

• A strong research background in cognitive science and/or neuroscience.
• Expertise in contemporary AI and machine learning.
• Strong computational skills (math and coding).

Responsibilities

• Survey the state-of-the-art in digital neuroscience and mechanistic interpretability.
• Develop models to represent aspects of human driving behavior.
• Explore and demonstrate how internal model mechanisms can be interpreted and explained.
