Walla Walla Nursery Co seeks a Phase II Technician to assist in propagation, rooting, and establishment of young plants through weaning to delivery. The role supports pruning, spacing, weeding, nutrient and irrigation management under supervision.

Strong communication, basic computer and math skills are required; horticulture knowledge is a plus. This full-time seasonal position may involve variable hours and outdoor conditions in Washington state.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist in propagation phase II up to delivery.
  • Prune, weed, space plants and remove diseased shoots.
  • Manage irrigation and nutrients as directed.
  • Operate automation like iGrow consoles and vents.
  • Prepare liners for weaning and record inventory changes.
  • Report pests or potential disease to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Phase II Technician Job Description

Job Title: Phase II Technician

Reports To: Phase II Supervisor

Position Status: Full-Time Seasonal

Compensation: $Min - 19.5 (DOE)

General Job Description:

Assists in the execution of propagation phase II: the rooting and establishment of newly stuck young plants (cuttings and TC) through the weaning process up to delivery to the next stage of growing.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promotes plant health and growth through active pruning, spacing, weeding, removing diseased or unwanted shoots, leaves, and weeds.
  • Supports plant health and growth by supplying nutrients and irrigation at a gradual pace either increasing or decreasing needs as determined by genus+species.
  • Uses automation to full advantage including but not limited to iGrow consoles, fog machines, booms, side wall and roof vents, bottom heat, etc. under the direction of Phase II Grower
  • Prepares liners for weaning or toning by cleaning, consolidating, and transferring to a holding location as instructed
  • Carefully documents and reports inventory changes, overall counts, losses, transfers, and plant status changes to Phase II Supervisor on a cutting request form.
  • Reports any pests or potential disease found
  • Universal Mechanical pruning- hedge trimmer/ trimming machine.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
  • Extensive pulling and/or pushing of tools, wheelbarrows, containers, etc.
  • Sit and/or walk for extensive periods of time while sorting, picking, examining, weeding, transporting, spacing, pruning, etc.
  • Stoop and/or bend over while performing farm balfour such as weeding, irrigating, pruning, spacing, picking, removing debris, etc.
  • Performing repetitive movements such as picking, sorting, pruning, shoveling, weeding, etc.
  • Lift or load up to 50 pounds
  • Fieldwork begins at an assigned time shortly after daylight
  • Work may be performed during environmental extremes including but not limited to light rain and in high humidity and in freezing or high temperatures.
  • May be required to work when crops are wet with dew/rain and should have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions
  • Must be able to walk across uneven terrain.

Other Requirements:
  • Due to this position being an agriculture growing position, you may be required to work 7 days a week depending on seasonal growing conditions.
  • Must go through annual WPS training
