Southern Ohio Medical Center in West Union, OH is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacist on duty and the Pharmacy Supervisor. The role involves profiling physician orders, dispensing medications, and assisting with medication reconciliation and patient education.

• Kentucky: State Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
• Pharmacy technician training or prior technician work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Profiles physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review.
• Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service; answers telephone inquiries and directs inquiries as needed.
• Delivers medications to Meds to Beds patients (ER).
• Performs medication reconciliation by interviewing patients and/or family members.
• Checks incoming orders against purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness.
• Educates patients on re-ordering prescriptions.

Department: West Union Pharmacy
Shift/schedule: Contingent (Works as needed)

Works under the direction and supervision of the Pharmacist on duty, the Pharmacy Supervisor, and the Community Pharmacy Manager. The Pharmacy Technician's primary job function is to prepare and distribute medications. Performs quality control, routine maintenance and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required
• Licensure: Successful completion of National Qualification test required (PTCB or NHA)
• For Ohio: State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Technician Registration required
• For Kentucky: State of Kentucky Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration Required
• Experience: Pharmacy Technician training program or certification or prior technician work experience required.

Job Specific Duties and Performance Expectations

• Profiles physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review.
• Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service, answer telephone inquiries; takes messages when necessary or directs inquiry to the appropriate person.
• Responsible for general cleanliness of work area/department.
• Ability to recognize narcotic discrepancies and perform audits as necessary.
• Delivers medications to Meds to Beds patients (in Emergency Room).
• Enters patient charges/credits into computer profile system.
• Checks incoming orders of medications and pharmacy supplies against purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness.
• Reviews patient medication profile to identify medications available through Patient Assistance.
• Contacts drug manufacturer for any application forms needed and/or enrolling patients for various programs over the phone/internet.
• Performs medication reconciliation by interviewing patients and/or family member to validate home medications.
• Contacts pharmacies, nursing homes, and the Veteran Affairs for a complete list of home medications.
• Obtains necessary income documentation from patients for various programs.
• Completes applications and obtains prescriptions for each manufacturer's applications. May coordinate with physician regarding and substitutions and obtains signed applications/prescriptions.
• Educates patient on his/her responsibility for re-ordering prescriptions.
• Communicates with Purchasing Agent regarding stock levels and items needed to assure adequate inventory. Assures stock rotation and placement of items in appropriate storage areas.
