Job summary

Southern Ohio Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in the Waverly Pharmacy. The role involves processing prescriptions, quality checks, and maintenance tasks to ensure accurate medication distribution.

Responsibilities include patient data entry, answering inquiries, and assisting with medication reconciliation and stock management. Requires high school diploma and national certification; Ohio/Kentucky registrations may apply.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required.
  • National Qualification test (PTCB or NHA) required.
  • For Ohio: Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Technician Registration required.
  • For Kentucky: Kentucky Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration Required.

Responsibilities

  • Profile physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review.
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and courteous service; answer telephone inquiries and take messages.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area/department.
  • Recognize narcotic discrepancies and perform audits as necessary.
  • Deliver medications to Meds to Beds patients (ER).
  • Enter patient charges/credits into computer profile system.
  • Check incoming orders of medications and pharmacy supplies for accuracy.
  • Review patient medication profile for Patient Assistance programs.
  • Contact drug manufacturers for forms and patient enrollment.
  • Perform medication reconciliation by interviewing patients/family.
  • Coordinate with pharmacies, nursing homes, and VA for home medications.
  • Obtain income documentation for programs.
  • Complete applications and obtain prescriptions; coordinate with physicians for substitutions.
  • Educate patients on re-ordering medications.
  • Communicate with Purchasing Agent about stock levels and inventory.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the direction and supervision of the Pharmacist on duty, the Pharmacy Supervisor, and the Community Pharmacy Manager. The Pharmacy Technician's primary job function is to prepare and distribute medications. Performs quality control, routine maintenance and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

• Completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required

Licensure

• Successful completion of National Qualification test required (PTCB or NHA)

• For Ohio: State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Technician Registration required

• For Kentucky: State of Kentucky Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration Required

Experience

• Pharmacy Technician training program or certification or prior technician work experience required.

1. Profiles physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review.

2. Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service, answer telephone inquiries; takes messages when necessary or directs inquiry to the appropriate person.

3. Responsible for general cleanliness of work area/department.

4. Ability to recognize narcotic discrepancies and perform audits as necessary.

5. Delivers medications to Meds to Beds patients (in Emergency Room).

6. Enters patient charges/credits into computer profile system.

7. Checks incoming orders of medications and pharmacy supplies against purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness.

8. Reviews patient medication profile to identify medications available through Patient Assistance.

9. Contacts drug manufacturer for any application forms needed and/or enrolling patients for various programs over the phone/internet.

10. Performs medication reconciliation by interviewing patients and/or family member to validate home medications.

11. Contacts pharmacies, nursing homes, and the Veteran Affairs for a complete list of home medications.

12. Obtains necessary income documentation from patients for various programs.

13. Completes applications and obtains prescriptions for each manufacturer's applications. May coordinate with physician regarding and substitutions and obtains signed applications/prescriptions.

14. Educates patient on his/her responsibility for re-ordering prescriptions.

15. Communicates with Purchasing Agent regarding stock levels and items needed to assure adequate inventory. Assures stock rotation and placement of items in appropriate storage areas.
