At least one-year technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations is also highly desired.
The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.

Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary license on or before their hire date, they must obtain a Full license within 1 year or before the temporary license expires, whichever is sooner, to maintain employment. All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire or in time to obtain a Full Michigan License, and maintain it throughout employment.
Positions eligible for hybrid or remote work are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change.
