Children and Women's Hospital Pharmacy Technician- Weekends Only

Pharmacy Technician positions are available in the pediatric acute care setting. Looking to create a diverse team to help perform patient care activities. Locations include CW Main Pharmacy and CW Operating Room Pharmacy. Specific areas and shift times are available depending on current area needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
• Prepare sterile products, injections, and IV chemotherapy
• Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
• Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
• Deliver medications to nursing units including surgical rooms
• Stock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, and properly dispose of expired medications
• Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
• Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
• Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
• Build various medication kits, providing support to many different professions
• Assist with training of staff
• Other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications
• Work in a highly collaborative environment including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Managers, Technician Supervisors, and other medical professionals

Required Qualifications

• Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
• One or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience
• Proficient communication, computer, and basic mathematical skills

Desired Qualifications

At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations is also highly desired.

Licensure & Certification

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date and maintain their certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.

Work Schedule

Positions on days, afternoons, or MN shifts are available for work on weekends only. Opportunity for 8 hour shifts (days or afternoons), 10 hour shifts (Midnight), or 16 hour shifts (combined days and afternoons) on weekend days may be accommodated.
