Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System in Independence is seeking a Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding to support infusion medications for home delivery patients. The role emphasizes sterile compounding in a cleanroom, with varied shifts and a weekday schedule plus rotating weekends.

A $2,500 sign-on bonus is available. Candidates must have a High School Diploma/GED and hold an active OBOP registration as a CP/T B or similar, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma/GED
  • Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application
  • AND it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • If certified but current status with the OBOP is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire
  • Please note: A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

The Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Compounding supports the preparation of infusion medications for home delivery patients as part of the Home Delivery pharmacy team. This role is primarily focused on sterile compounding within the cleanroom environment, rotating between antibiotic and TPN hoods to prepare specialized infusion therapies. Working in a highly controlled setting, this caregiver plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, safe, and timely preparation of compounded medications for patients receiving care at home.

A caregiver in this role will work Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts from 11:00am to 7:30pm, with a weekend rotation every 7–8 weeks. Holiday coverage is rotational (8:30am. to 5:00pm), typically two per year (one winter, one summer). On-call responsibilities align with the scheduled weekend, covering Tuesday to Friday prior from 7:30pm to 7:00am, with on-call pay provided. No floating is required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Prior inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
