Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in Cleveland, OH, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician - Central Inpatient, with day/evening rotation. This role supports high-volume inpatient operations across general inpatient care, oncology, sterile products, operating room and pediatrics.

You will prepare medications, deliver to storage locations, manage inventories, use automated systems, and help train staff. A sign-on bonus up to $2,500 is offered to eligible candidates.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Six months of related experience.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA.
  • Active OBOP registration as CPТ, RPT or Technician Trainee.
  • Update OBOP registration to CPТ within 6 months after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications including labeling, repacking, non-sterile and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to storage locations accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain inventories and complete inventory audits (cycle counts, unit inspections).
  • Maintain a safe, compliant work area and document regulatory requirements.
  • Use information systems and automation to complete tasks.
  • Assist with training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

The Pharmacy Technician – Central Inpatient supports one of Cleveland Clinic’s highest-volume inpatient pharmacies, serving a wide range of service lines including general inpatient care, oncology, sterile products, the operating room, and pediatrics. As part of a collaborative pharmacy team, caregivers rotate through multiple operational areas, gaining experience in medication preparation and distribution, medication deliveries throughout Main Campus, automated carousel operations, phone triage, and management of the MAR messaging system to support inpatient care teams. This role is highly active, requiring frequent travel throughout the hospital, and offers extensive cross-training opportunities. Upon successful completion of training and demonstrated competencies, caregivers may have the opportunity to transfer into one of several specialized pharmacy areas, including IV services, ambulatory pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and home care, based on departmental needs.

A caregiver in this position will work rotating day and evening shifts, including 6:45am–3:15pm and 2:00pm–10:30pm. Caregivers typically work three weeks on day shift followed by one week on evening shift, though some may work a consistent evening schedule based on departmental needs. Every third weekend is required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterilecompoundingand sterile compounding.

  • Deliver medications to theappropriate storagelocations inan accurateandtimelymanner.

  • Maintainaccurateandappropriate inventoriesof medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.

  • Maintain a safe and clean work area bycomplying withprocedures, rules and regulations, anddocumentregulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduledactivitiesand training.

  • Use information systems,technologyand automation to complete assigned tasks.

  • Assistwith the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Six months of related experience

  • Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA).

  • Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.

  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Six months of hospital experience

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
