Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is hiring a Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Products to join the Inpatient Pharmacy team. You will prepare medications, assist with sterile and non-sterile compounding, and deliver meds to units on a day/evening rotation.

Position offers a $2,500 sign-on bonus and comprehensive benefits. Ideal candidates hold a Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT), Ohio licensure, and have related experience or completed training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Six months of related pharmacy experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Certification as Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required by hire (PTCB or NHA).
  • Active Ohio Board of Pharmacy registration as CPhT/Registered/Pharmacy Technician Trainee at hire.
  • Must update OBOP registration to CPhT within 6 months.
  • Strong algebraic calculation skills for extemporaneous compounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications by selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to correct storage locations accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain inventories and perform cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area and document regulatory requirements (temperature logs, training).
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete tasks.
  • Assist with training pharmacy caregivers and students.

**This position is eligible for a sign on bonus of $2,500

A caregiver in this position will work variable shifts between 6:45am to 3:15pm and 2:00pm to 10:30pm, with approximately three weeks on day shift followed by one week on second shift. Caregivers participate in an every third weekend rotation.

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
  • In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Six months of inpatient hospital and IV Sterile Compounding experience.
Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
