Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, VA is hiring a Specialty Pharmacy Technician for the Emergency Department environment. Eligible candidates may receive a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

The position supports evening and weekend coverage as part of a rotating shift schedule. The role requires a Virginia Pharmacy Tech License, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least 2 years of pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy technician license in the state of practice is required.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Virginia Pharmacy Tech License is required.
• CPhT license through NHA or PTCB is preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of pharmacy experience is required.
• Prior customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs technician duties in specialized pharmacy areas under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area.
• Capable of working independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
• Participates in training of new employees.
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
• Triages and escalates questions outside the technician scope as needed.
• Uses systems for processing patient information and maintains quality assurance.

This position requires work with patients in the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

• The Specialty Pharmacy Tech performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.
• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
• Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
• Participates in the training of new employees
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
• Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.

Compensation and Benefits

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $23.50 - $36.36 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
