Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to ensure DEA and Arizona State Board compliance while handling medications for six jail clinics. You will support nurses and pharmacy technicians, receive meds from an off-site pharmacy, and organize stock across clinics.

You will manage controlled meds, reconcile inventories, order stock to PAR levels, and document refills and transfers. The role emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, and adherence to safety standards in a high-volume

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician certification and license issued by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with nursing teams, providers, and medication supply team to enhance medication workflows and troubleshoot medication-related problems.
  • Manage medication, scan medications into the clinic from pharmacy vendor.
  • Reconcile and receive medications, inventories clinic stock, and monitor for outdated medications.
  • Order stock medications as needed to maintain established clinic PAR level.
  • Assist clinic nurses with patient-specific medication refills, returns medications, and accurately documents findings and processes.
  • Manage controlled medications for all CHS clinics by ordering replacement stock to maintain clinic par level, destroys abandoned patient-specific medications, audits all controlled medication sign-out sheets for compliance, monitors methadone sign-out sheets and shift counts to ensure clinics are within DEA guidelines.
  • Work with contracted pharmacy to reduce fiscal waste of non-returnable medications, manages and records destruction of unused 340B medications.
  • Manage the distribution and accountability of immunizations supplied by Public Health to ensure compliance with the Vaccines for Adults program.
  • Maintains medications on provider cart by ordering replacement stock when needed and replacing outdated medication.
  • Assists with medication transfer between clinics when needed.

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

As our Certified Pharmacy Technician, you will ensure compliance with DEA and Arizona State Board of Pharmacy regulations regarding handling controlled and non-controlled medications. In this role, you will utilize your knowledge of drugs, drug dosages, potency, routes of administration, storage requirements, rules, and regulations that apply to a licensed pharmacy on a daily basis. You will work with a team of nurses and pharmacy technicians to ensure that medications are received from an off-site pharmacy and organized/maintained at each of the medical clinics within the 6 Maricopa County Jails.

Working Conditions
  • Ability to work inside a jail and stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a busy environment, interacting appropriately with clients and staff, and performing data entry with a high level of accuracy
  • Position requires accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasks
  • Position includes day or night shift work, which may include weekends and holidays
  • Travel or floating to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius, subject to County policies regarding the use of a County or private vehicle used on County business
  • Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies
  • Must maintain CPR certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail access upon hire
