Job summary

Baptist Health in Kentucky seeks an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacy services by assembling and distributing medications under direct supervision of pharmacists.

You will assist with ordering, receiving, storage, distribution and monitoring of medication use, including non-sterile and sterile compounding per USP standards, under supervision. Registration with the KY Board of Pharmacy is required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Registration with KY Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with non-sterile compounding per USP 795.
  • Familiarity with sterile compounding per USP 797.

Responsibilities

  • Greets health care providers and patients by phone or in person and routes drug information to a pharmacist.
  • Delivers medication to units accurately and promptly and maintains safe storage and handling.
  • Handles controlled substances in accordance with policies and procedures and maintains documentation.
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, storage, distribution and monitoring of medications under supervision.
  • Prepares simple non-sterile compounding and sterile compounds per guidelines, under pharmacist verification.

Summary Job Description: Position Summary The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician is a certified pharmacy technician position who supports pharmacy services by assembling and participating in the distribution of medications. This position will assist the department’s professional staff, under direct supervision, in numerous aspects of ordering, receiving, storage, distribution, and monitoring medication use.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greets health care providers and patients in person or by phone; answering questions and requests when appropriate; refers drug information calls to a pharmacist.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and protocols and maintains a safe and clean pharmacy, while also maintaining a neat and orderly work area.
  • Delivers medication to appropriate unit in an accurate timely fashion.
  • Handling of controlled substances in accordance with pharmacy department policies and procedures.
  • Provides appropriate documentation as required.
  • Attends and contributes to the content of meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Prepares simple non-sterile compounding in accordance with department guidelines and applicable USP 795 standards utilizing aseptic technique for final verification by a pharmacist
  • Maintains a working knowledge of appropriate regulatory body and federal/state laws and regulations for nonsterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Prepares sterile compounds (hazardous and nonhazardous) in accordance with department guidelines and applicable USP 797 standards, local and federal regulations and utilizing strict aseptic technique for final verification by a pharmacist.

Minimum Education and Training Registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy (KY hospitals) within 30 days of hire date if you are a new registrant. If previously registered, you must have registration upon hire.
