Job summary

HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to assist pharmacists with daily operations in accordance with Florida Board of Pharmacy standards.

Responsibilities include delivering medications, preparing and dispensing medications (including IVs) under pharmacist supervision, maintaining equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation and inventory control. Candidates must have a PharmTech license or be eligible and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • PharmTech Pharmacy Technician License is required or eligible.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers medications and assists with preparation and dispensing under pharmacist supervision.
  • Assists in sterile compounding of IVs and other preparations using aseptic technique.
  • Maintains equipment and inventory controls, including routine checks and documentation.
  • Performs monthly unit inspections and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Keeps accurate records and assists with billing and unit dose preparation.

Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists pharmacists in the performance of daily pharmacy routines in accordance with all laws, standards, policies and procedures as dictated by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS
  • Deliveries of medications, preparation and dispensing of all medications, including IV's under direct supervision of pharmacist. Maintains equipment such as automated dispensing cabinets, pre-packing equipment, department bar-coding scanners. Assists pharmacist in other duties as assigned.
  • Appropriate aseptic technique applied and annual media validation passed
  • Controlled substances dispensing and discrepancy resolution
  • Cart fill list generation and pre-packer operation to complete fill
  • All elements of preparation and distribution of medications
  • Compounding of extemporaneous preparations and stability assignments
  • Inventory control procedures including borrow/loan and emergency medication procurement
  • Nursing unit inspections and documentation
  • TPN compounding per procedures

  • Delivers medications and/or pharmacy supplies to the proper locations within the medical center as required
  • Checks nursing stations hourly for excess IV solutions and piggybacks and returns unused doses to pharmacy
  • Prepares and compounds sterile products to include IV's, liquids, creams, lotions, etc. using aseptic technique
  • Restocks med and supply areas for the next shift
  • Pre-packages medications in unit dose form according to pharmacy policies
  • Bar codes products as necessary
  • Fills medication carts/labels
  • Restocks automated dispensing cabinets
  • Runs refill activity report to close narcotic delivery loop
  • Runs CII Compare report after EVERY control substance delivery
  • Pharmacy inventory and floor inventory outdates
  • Performs monthly unit inspections
  • Answers phone with Name and department in a professional manner
  • Performs refills and outdate on all Crash cart and emergency boxes
  • Identifies critical issues, prioritize workload and communicate to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner
  • Completes all education requirements and/or other activities needed to maintain competency
  • Interacts in person and by phone with hospital personnel politely and appropriately.
  • Accurately maintains required documentation logs
  • Complies with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Responsible for maintaining medication storage and security as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization
  • Performs quality control and performance improvement functions as assigned
  • Accurately performs and documents monthly medication storage area inspections as assigned
  • Performs basic billing functions
  • Completes basic OR charges in a timely manner as assigned
  • Accurately performs required calculations
  • Accurately performs required calculations
  • Accurately and safely compounds and labels medications and parenteral admixtures
  • Always utilizes aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral compounding
  • Compliant with all USP 797 shift/daily/monthly requirements (i.e. Cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.)
  • Always obtains a final check from the pharmacist before releasing any prepared parenteral compounds, before packaging any medication, or dispensing any medication.
  • Prepares all work records needed for day at their designated times including the Discontinued, Transfers, and Discharges Lists of parenteral preparations and efficiently processes these reports before they are dispensed to the patient care areas
  • Accurately transports medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner to appropriate areas..
  • Accurately fills orders in the pharmacy
  • Processes medication returns and restocking to the pharmacy
