Job Summary
As a Pharmacy Technician with HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, you will support medication safety, quality, and efficiency across the pharmacy and patient care areas. Your work ensures reliable supply, accurate documentation, and compliant compounding practices while facilitating effective communication within the hospital team.
Responsibilities
- Identify critical issues, prioritize workload, and communicate to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Complete all education requirements and/or other activities needed to maintain competency.
- Interact in person and by phone with hospital personnel politely and appropriately.
- Accurately maintain required documentation logs.
- Comply with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain medication storage and security as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization.
- Perform quality control and performance improvement functions as assigned.
- Accurately perform and document monthly medication storage area inspections as assigned.
- Perform basic billing functions.
- Complete basic OR charges in a timely manner as assigned.
- Accurately perform required calculations.
- Accurately and safely compound and label medications and parenteral admixtures.
- Utilize aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral compounding.
- Comply with all USP 797 shift/daily/monthly requirements (e.g., cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment).
- Obtain a final check from the pharmacist before releasing any prepared parenteral compounds, before packaging any medication, or dispensing any medication.
- Prepare work records needed for day at designated times, including the Discontinued, Transfers, and Discharges Lists of parenteral preparations, and efficiently process these reports before dispensing to patient care areas.
- Accurately transport medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner to appropriate areas.
- Accurately fill orders in the pharmacy.
- Process medication returns and restocking to the pharmacy.
- Provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems.
- Perform daily ADC routines as assigned (e.g., restocks, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading and unloading).
- Replenish ADCs, emergency cart trays, and floor stock accurately and as needed.
- Accurately package and prepare medications for dispensing as assigned.
- Notify the pharmacy inventory manager of products that need to be reordered in a timely manner.
- Comply with ongoing processes to monitor outdates as per policy and procedures.
- Perform receiving and check‑in of medication/supply orders as defined in policy and notify the pharmacy inventory manager of any shortages, overages, or damages of product.
- Manage drug supplies in a cost‑effective manner and identify opportunities to minimize waste.
Qualifications
- (PharmTech) Pharmacy Technician License
- High School Graduate / GED
No Travel Required. No experience required.
