Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician III is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including dispensing, preparing, compounding, and delivering pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. The role involves calculations, measurements, and compounding in accordance with USP standards and best practices. The technician works as part of an interdisciplinary team under the supervision of pharmacists and may assist in staff onboarding and training. The position extends knowledge and competency in various pharmacy settings such as Ambulatory, Inpatient, Infusion, or Research centers.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Select, package, and label medication and supply orders for pharmacist approval, ensuring accurate data entry and proper protocol adherence.
  2. Maintain and monitor medication inventory levels, reporting shortages as needed.
  3. Utilize medical informatics systems, including order-entry, dispensing, barcode technology, and clinical systems, supporting daily operations.
  4. Deliver medications and pharmacy services to patients or care areas following regulatory standards.
  5. Calculate, measure, and compound medications per USP standards, including sterile and hazardous compounding.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare team to identify and resolve patient-specific medication needs, involving pharmacists when necessary.
  7. Obtain comprehensive medication histories and perform specialized handling or compounding for specific patient populations.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Maryland Technician Registration, Pharmacy Intern Certificate, or Student Technician Exemption (for enrolled pharmacy students)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
