Job summary

Valley View Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Drug Diversion Prevention, to lead diversion monitoring and auditing efforts, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe medication management across the facility. Qualifications

• Certified Pharmacy Technician with the state board of Pharmacy.
• One year hospital pharmacy experience required.
• Three years hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of diversion prevention monitoring procedures and practices.
• Maintain a comprehensive controlled substance surveillance program compliant with DEA and best practices.
• Create and execute a comprehensive auditing program for controlled substances.

How you'll contribute

A Pharmacy Technician, Drug Diversion Prevention who excels in this role:

• Under the direction of the Pharmacy Director, will provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of activities related to diversion prevention monitoring procedures and practices.
• Is responsible for maintenance oof a comprehensive controlled substance surveillance program based on regulatory body requirements including but not limited to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and best practices.
• Will help create and execute a comprehensive auditing program for controlled substances.
• Will have extensive contact with administration, the nursing department and hospital staff.
• Participate in standard practice, ensure quality and patient safety regarding medication management and process improvement.
• Assist revenue integrity technician in daily functions, including bit not limited to ancillary charge report view, reconciling pharmacy charges and answering questions from the revenue integrity department.
• Ensure timely resolution of ADM (automated dispensing machine) controlled substance discrepancies as supported by departmental policy and procedures.
• Review outliers in controlled substance transactions among ADM users and work with area user management when outliers are identified.
• Conduct audits for pharmacy personnel when conducting daily ADM transaction activities.
• Conduct audits for nursing medication administration, documentation, and waste.
• Help create, implement, and maintain comprehensive surveillance, auditing, and review programs to assist in the prevention and detection of controlled substance diversion.
• Help lead process improvement initiatives as it pertains to controlled substance diversion monitoring and auditing processes.
• Conduct random and specific audits to address areas of high-risk institution wide.
• Investigate suspected or confirmed events of controlled substance diversion generated from area auditing tools and protocols.
• Utilize technical skills to generate reports and monitoring mechanism to identify areas of risk, gaps in current process, and area trends.
• Work with internal and external leaders to promote awareness of findings, deficiencies, areas of risk, and make recommendations for process improvements.
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of controlled substance law at the federal, state, and local level.
• Assist pharmacy technician in daily duties and may be required to staff as a pharmacy technician as needed.
• Perform addition job-related duties as assigned which contribute to efficient and safe operations and activities, and quality patient care, comfort and satisfaction.

What we're looking for

Applicants with high school diploma preferred. Additional requirements include:

• Certified Pharmacy Technician with the state board of education or an equivalent recognized by the state board of Pharmacy.
• One (1) year hospital pharmacy experience required.
• Three (3) years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
