Job Summary And Qualifications

As a Pharmacy Technician Compounding you will perform duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and assist in the processing, preparation, and dispensing of patient medication orders according to professional standards and practices. As a Pharmacy Technician (Compounding) you will demonstrate skills in sterile compounding preparation which may include hazardous drug preparation (chemo certification training).

What you will do in this role
  • Accurately fill medication orders, compound and label medications and parenteral admixtures, and be responsible for compounding of sterile preparations, including chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition, with demonstrated competencies. Perform required calculations and use aseptic techniques. Comply with USP 797 shift/daily/monthly requirements.
  • Obtain final checks from the pharmacist before releasing prepared parenteral compounds, before packaging any medication, or delivering any medication. Process medication returns and restocking, accurately package and prepare medications for dispensing, and transport medications and supplies in a timely manner while maintaining proper storage and security.
  • Perform daily ADC routines (restocks, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading/unloading), replenish ADCs, emergency cart trays and floor stock accurately, troubleshoot ADC issues, reconfigure ADCs and perform build and set-up functions, adjust medication min/max PAR levels under direction, and provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and pharmacy computer systems.
  • Perform routine manufacturing and prepackaging, maintain accurate and complete record logs, ensure pharmacist checks all work, perform receiving and check-in of medication/supply orders, and notify the pharmacy inventory manager of reorder, shortage, overage, or damaged product. Assist in drug supply management in a cost‑effective manner and identify opportunities to minimize waste.
  • Identify critical issues, prioritize workload and communicate to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Interact in person and by phone with hospital personnel politely and respectfully.
  • Perform unit/area inspections, expiration date checks when scheduled, and submit appropriate documentation (USP 797 cleaning docs, batch logs, census reports, outdate reports, unload reports). Comply with ongoing processes to monitor outdates per department procedures.
What qualifications you will need
  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Completion of a course sponsored by an ACPE provider providing 40 hours of instruction and experience, meeting Texas Board of Pharmacy requirements for sterile compounding. Training may be obtained through an accredited College of Pharmacy or ACPE accredited provider.
  • Hospital experience with at least one year of sterile compounding experience preferred.
  • Current Registered Pharmacy Technician by the State Board of Pharmacy or Intern Certification with the Texas Board of Pharmacy.
