Job summary

Job description

Essential Functions
  • Mix pharmaceutical preparations and fill bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and compound medications as directed.
  • Assist pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication.
  • Request and obtain prior authorizations for various pharmaceutical products.
  • Count stock and enter data in computer to maintain inventory records. Generate pharmaceutical orders and validate submission, receive, and store incoming supplies, adjudicate orders upon receipt and ensure payment.
  • Coordinate reverse distributor program to obtain reimbursement where appropriate.
  • Process records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, compute charges, and enter data.
  • Prepare sterile compounds (IVs) according to USP 797/800 standards.
  • Enter data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
  • Compile and maintain reports to monitor outdated medication.
  • Assist the Lead Pharmacy Technician with the pharmacy’s point of sale (POS) billing program, including maintenance and direct total billing operations for pharmacy programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and comply with federal, state, and local regulations affecting areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain effective, collaborative interdepartmental and external relations.
  • Comply with federal laws and regulations as required by HIPAA.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Serve on OHC Committees, Teams, and Workgroups as assigned.
  • Perform core responsibilities accurately, timely, and in accordance with established standards.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance consistent with the position’s schedule and operational needs.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders as required by the role.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize required systems, tools, and technology necessary to perform the job.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for long periods (4–8+ hours)
  • Lift anywhere from 20–50 lbs depending on role
  • Bend, stretch, and reach frequently
  • Maintain fine motor control for small objects
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a formal training program or an associate’s degree and one (1) year of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant experience. Individuals must have applicable education or experience applying a body of standardized rules, procedures, or operations to perform the full range of standard clerical assignments and resolve recurring problems or to operate and adjust varied equipment for purposes such as performing numerous standardized tests or operations.
  • Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience and National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB); or one (1) year of pharmacy technician experience and a Pharmacy Technician degree.
