OSF HealthCare is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in dispensing, labeling, and charging medications across multiple locations in Illinois, including Peru and Ottawa. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and documentation while working in a hospital-based environment.

The Technician will handle IV preparations, patient age-appropriate care, and standing/walking for long periods, with scheduling across several OSF facilities.

• Education: At least 16 years of age and in school or graduate from high school or equivalent.
• Enrollment in ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program within 90 days of hire and completion within 2 years.
• License/Certification: IDFPR license; PTCB or NHC certification within 2 years of licensure or hire.

Expected pay for this position is $19.35 - $21.78/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

This position will primarily be working at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru, IL. The pharmacy technician will also provide coverage at these other locations in the area: OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa, OSF St. Saint Claire Medical Center in Princeton and OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in ensuring medications are promptly, accurately and safely dispensed, delivered, charged and credited. Prepares and labels medications to match orders. Maintains records related to drug use and charges. This position requires the Technician to be proficient in both dispensing oral medications and in preparation of I.V. solutions. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric. Work involves standing, lifting and walking continually while in the process of performing duties.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: At least 16 years of age and is attending or graduated from an accredited high school or comparable school or educational institution or GED
• Within 90 days of hire, must enroll in an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program through Guild and complete at least 25% of the didactic coursework. Within 2 years of hire or license (whichever comes first), must complete the program. Alternatively, may meet this requirement by providing documentation of one of the following: Completion of a pharmacy technician training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Verification, signed by a pharmacist-in-charge from previous employment, of at least 500 hours of equivalent pharmacy technician work experience covering practice areas required by the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act.
• Licenses/Certifications: Registered Pharmacy Technician License validated by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) validated by PTCB or National Healthcareer Certification within 2 years of initial licensure or within 2 years of hire, if the original date of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license is prior to January 1, 2008. Other skills/knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience: At least 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent
• 1 year pharmacy experience
• Other requirements/information: Demonstrates ability to perform and apply arithmetic calculations.
