Job summary

Job description

The Opportunity: Join the UCF Student Health Team as a Pharmacy Technician and add to our dedication to provide excellent healthcare to the community that we serve.

The Pharmacy Technician position works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and assists the pharmacists in providing medication and other health care products to patients and customers of the Student Health Services Pharmacy.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparation of filling prescriptions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Interpret physician orders and prescription information proficiently.
  • Accurately enter prescription data into the computer for processing.
  • Handle billing for 3rd party insurance and PBM's; obtain prior authorizations; monitor formulary and reimbursement.
  • Manage inventory: ordering, stocking, inputting new shipments of medication into the computer and returning overstock items to wholesalers and reverse distributors.
  • Communicate and interact with pharmacist, nurses, physicians, and support staff.
  • Stock and market OTC medications.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining adequate stock of prescription vials and supplies for efficient dispensing.
  • Keep shelves fronted, cleaned, and adequately stocked; place new medication behind older medication.
  • Maintain and complete record keeping and filling duties.
  • Ensure efficient prescription flow.
  • Assist in filling 300 or more prescriptions a day.
  • Greet patients and professionals on the phone and in person.
  • Monitor wait times on prescriptions.
  • Ensure telephone messages are legible, detailed, completed, and handled in a timely efficient manner.
  • Notify pharmacist of all emergencies or special attention messages.
  • Turn all calls relating to medical questions over to the pharmacist.
  • Verify eligibility status of patients.
  • Understand the inner workings of the Health Center.
  • Conduct biannual physical inventory.
  • Receive prescriptions from patients.
  • Obtain pertinent information and enter appropriate information into the computer.
  • Assist pharmacist by answering telephone calls.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new pharmacists, both full time and OPS, and pharmacy technicians.
  • Perform other assignments/duties when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered with the State of Florida, Board of Pharmacy and 2+ years of appropriate experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference may be given to candidates with 2–3 years of experience working in a high-volume retail pharmacy environment.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, preferably eClinicalWorks (ECW).
  • Experience with third-party billing for prescription medications to insurance providers.

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $17.64- $19.00. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H-1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.

This is a time-limited funding position. Employment is subject to the availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

This position requires a flexible schedule and availability to work Saturdays and evening shifts as needed.

Work Schedule Monday - Friday; within the hours of 8:00 AM-6:30 PM with rotating Saturdays, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM (8 hours shifts/40 hours per week). Hours are subject to change due to operational needs, special project, and emergencies.
