Qualifications

Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists in unit dose, outpatient prescriptions, and the preparation of drugs in accordance with established procedures as outlined in Part 29.7 of the pharmacy handbook. Performs related work such as procuring, storing, and distributing drugs.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Receives and processes error-free e-prescriptions in a timely manner, labels, and affixes.
  2. Keys e-prescription data from a computer-generated file for pharmacist review.
  3. Retrieves prescription data from a computer-generated e-file for review.
  4. Handles 340B and GPO drug orders from vendors.
  5. Prepares manual dispensing records for pharmacist approval.
  6. Maintains and retrieves pharmacy records using automated (OPUS/EPIC) and manual systems.
  7. Obtains drugs from stock and checks for expired medications.
  8. Performs pharmacy-related clerical tasks by reconciling invoices.
  9. Procures, sorts, stores, and distributes drugs with complete documentation.
  10. Retrieves refill orders from telephone answering machines and patients.
  11. Prepares orders from nursing units and off-site clinics.
  12. Responsible for off-site medication orders and vaccine procurement and distribution.
  13. Monitors VFC refrigerator, calibrates, and manages vaccine inventory.
  14. Performs monthly unit inspections and in-house clinic inspections.
  15. Reports to work on time daily to restock medications and documents daily temperature logs.
  16. Lifts boxes up to 40-50 lbs to stock medications and returns to receiving.
  17. Reports lateness to or calls the Director of Pharmacy.
  18. Requests time off or vacation at least one month in advance with approved forms.
  19. Documents all lateness on timesheets, reflects beginning and ending times.
  20. Pharmacist and pharmacy technician on evening shift jointly close the pharmacy.
  21. Reports issues during shifts to the pharmacist on duty.
  22. Part-time weekly hours: up to 20; Full-time weekly hours: up to 37.5.
  23. Adheres to age-specific competency requirements, controls substances schedules, and manages COVID-19 vaccine storage/distribution.
  24. Maintains PPE protocols and PPE-zone security.
  25. Schedules are planned 15 days in advance, involving Monday-Friday and Saturdays; closed Sundays and most holidays.
  26. Vacation requests are to be made 30 days before schedule deadlines, on the 15th of each month.
  27. Provides two references on letterhead.
Minimum Qualifications

Effective April 25, 2021, all new hires must be licensed as a Registered Pharmacy Technician by NYSED.
