Technicians are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, assisting with pharmacy operations to ensure prescriptions are filled promptly and safely, while delivering an exceptional experience. They work within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and strive to contribute to a safe and inclusive culture.
Once in role, Technicians complete a rigorous training program and meet all registration, licensing, and certification requirements per their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Duties may be restricted until these requirements are completed.
Responsibilities
- Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care; assist patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services as appropriate; escalate patient issues as needed
- Complete basic inventory activities as directed by the pharmacy leadership team, such as stocking deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and related tasks
- Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; may travel to stores within the market to work shifts as needed
- Understand and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy
- Deliver additional patient health care services where allowed by law and supported by training (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, offsite clinics)
Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may support immunizations, including:
- Completing licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines
- Educating patients about vaccines and directing vaccination questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty
- Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements
- Reviewing and documenting patient information for applicable cases
- Managing vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
- Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws; includes age, education, licensure, and certification
- If minimum age is not mandated by the state, must be at least 16 years old
- If minimum educational requirement is not mandated by the state, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a program for high school equivalency
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
Essential Functions

- Customer service and team orientation; provide friendly help and respond appropriately to patient reactions
- Communication skills; clear verbal and written communication and active listening
- Mathematical reasoning for dispensing calculations and inventory
- Problem resolution; identify challenging interactions and determine best action
- Physical demands as applicable: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger work, visual acuity, and ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Other duties as directed by supervisor or manager
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs

The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $16.00 - $24.00
This pay range represents base pay for all positions in the job grade; actual offer depends on factors including experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors.
