Job summary

Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center is hiring a Pharmacy Technician to perform technical support duties in the pharmacy department under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Responsibilities include medication preparation, inventory management, patient records, and accurate order entry.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and an Ohio-approved national pharmacy technician exam with 3–5 years of experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required and Ohio State Board-approved national pharmacy technician exam.
  • 3–5 years of experience in pharmacy preferred.
  • Current pharmacy technician certification required or maintained as per state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Procures and distributes medication orders under physician/pharmacist direction.
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures and unit-dose medications.
  • Maintains stock levels and cleans/organizes pharmacy areas.
  • Enters medication orders and charges into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Generates reports, labels, and maintains documentation and logs.

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician performs technical support functions in the pharmacy department that include, preparing and distributing medications under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, maintaining drug inventory and maintaining patient records.

Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities

Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment; Fills physician orders, medication kits or trays, medication carts, or stock requisitions accurately; Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile products (including chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition) accurately; Pre-packs medications in unit-dose packages. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures; Replenishes medication in emergency crash carts and floor stock areas accurately. Assists in ordering, receiving, and unpacking, and storing of pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations; Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration; Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas; Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections monthly. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.

Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule; Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds and as requested; Enters medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately; Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.

Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required; Answers the telephone identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel; Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care areas when needed; Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documents in appropriate locations. Contributes to the effective operation of the department; Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.

Adheres to departmental, facility, and CCOC Policies and Procedures; Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control; Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Performs all duties under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Participates in departmental and facility quality improvement activities; Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned; Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, staff, and Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center administrators; Voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner; Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information; Demonstrates efforts to improve patient satisfaction, lower costs, and improve quality; Understands and meets customer's needs and expectations. The patients and family members always come first.

Attends required departmental and facility in-services; Maintains competence required for current job title/position; Maintains current pharmacy technician certification; Attends pharmacy staff meetings; Participates in orientation, education, and training programs. Reviews literature and other material as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED required. Passed an examination administered by a national pharmacy technician organization which has been approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: Three (3) to Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in field or profession preferred.
