Job summary

JobRx, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support safe, accurate dispensing under licensed pharmacist supervision at Upham's Community Care in Boston, MA. The role includes prescription processing, inventory management, and patient communication, with a focus on health equity and quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in processing, filling, and labeling prescriptions accurately and efficiently.
  • Retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and sometimes mix medications under direct supervision.
  • Input and maintain prescription and patient data in the Liberty pharmacy software and electronic health record (EPIC).
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance representatives to resolve medication-related issues.
  • Support patients in understanding medication pick-up, delivery, and refill processes with compassion and cultural sensitivity.
  • Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and monitoring expiration dates.
  • Prepare medications for Omnicell adherence packaging and Parata automation systems as assigned.
  • Support compliance with 340B program policies and FQHC guidelines for uninsured and underinsured patients.
  • Maintain organized and clean work areas according to infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Follow all privacy and security regulations in handling Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, training, and continuing education activities.

Job description

Position Title: Pharmacy Technician

Department: Pharmacy

Supervisor: Technician Supervisor

Hours per week: 40 hours

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Pay Range: The expected base pay for the position is $19-$26 per hour and may be increased based on other factors, such as language, certifications, etc.

Primary Function

The Pharmacy Technician supports the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Technician assists with prescription preparation, patient communication, inventory management, and workflow coordination to ensure high-quality pharmacy services that promote health equity and improve patient outcomes across Upham's Community Care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in processing, filling, and labeling prescriptions accurately and efficiently.

Additional Duties
  • Assist with pharmacy reports, audits, and data collection as assigned.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to improving workflow efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations.

This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week.

Regular work schedule would require working some evenings each week and two (2) Saturday shifts per month.

Minimum Basic Knowledge
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician License required.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a retail, outpatient, or health center pharmacy preferred.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software (Liberty or similar) and electronic health records (EPIC preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in prescription processing.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, cultural competence, and equity-focused service delivery.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with professionalism and empathy.
Essential Functions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, move between workstations, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Visual and manual dexterity sufficient to read prescriptions, labels, and computer screens.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, staff, and providers in person and by phone.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform light physical activities related to stocking or deliveries.

  • Exposure: Occasional - May be exposed to medications, cleaning products, or infectious materials with proper PPE.

Define Access Level to PHI

Level 3: Authorized to access limited categories of PHI and specific sections of the patient's medical record as necessary to perform job duties related to prescription processing, dispensing, and patient communication. Must adhere to UCC's Minimum Necessary Information Policy at all times.
