UPMC in Altoona, PA seeks a Pharmacy Tech Trainee for full-time day/night shifts. Under pharmacist supervision, you will assist with drug storage, distribution, labeling, and unit-of-use packaging.

You will deliver drugs to patient care areas, fill floor stock orders, and support medication returns and recalls, while maintaining daily reports and rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of proper drug storage and distribution procedures.
• Ability to interpret physician orders and distinguish among orders.
• Basic pharmaceutical calculations and aseptic technique understanding.
• Familiarity with unit-dose packaging and inventory control.

Responsabilités

• Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Repackages drugs into unit-of-use containers and prepares correct labeling for bulk drugs.
• Interprets physician orders and differentiates between pharmaceutical orders, labs, radiology, nursing, and other orders.
• Performs basic pharmaceutical calculations and maintains aseptic technique when preparing sterile products.

Pharmacy Tech Trainee

Full-time, Day/Night Shift, (2) 8-hour shifts, (2) 12-hour shifts per week. 8-hour shifts are 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM and 12-hour shifts are 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM. Every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Purpose

Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers drugs to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.

Responsibilities

• Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity as ordered by physician under direct supervision of a pharmacist. Repackages drugs into unit-of-use containers.
• Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs. Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing, and other orders. Basic understanding of the concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.
• Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations. Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products. Accurately fills floor stock requests.
• Perform monthly medication storage area inspections. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
