Job summary

Children's Health in Dallas, TX is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II to support the Outpatient Pharmacy team. You will prepare unit dose medications, assist in sterile and non-sterile compounding, and deliver meds to patient care areas.

Under supervision of the pharmacy technician team lead and pharmacists, you will handle medication distribution, inventory checks, and EMR entries while upholding safety and regulatory standards in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years pharmacy-related experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares unit dose medications and compounding.
  • Prepares non-sterile admixtures; aseptic technique per policy.
  • Deliver medication to patient care units and restock carts.
  • Enter missing doses and charges in the computer system.
  • Maintain clean, compliant work areas and equipment.
  • Respond to calls and direct to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure compliance with USP 797 and infection control standards.
  • Manage inventory, expiry checks, and disposal of unusable products.
  • Operate EMR and pharmacy computer systems as a user.

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the pharmacy technician team lead and pharmacists, the pharmacy technician II is responsible for preparing unit dose medications, compounding sterile preparations, and delivering medication to patient care units.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares non-sterile admixtures, including hazardous medications; Perform computer entry for missing doses, patient charges and credits, and other documentation; Deliver or restock medications; deliver pharmacist code box; assist in maintaining overall cleanliness and organization of work areas and maintaining a continuous level of readiness for inspection by external groups.
  • Prepares parenteral products under the direction of a pharmacist. Utilizing aseptic technique adhering to USP 797 guidelines in accordance with policy.
  • Maintains competency and aseptic technique validation per departmental policy.
  • Prepares non-sterile admixtures, including hazardous medications.
  • Answers phone calls and responds to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.
  • Ensure compounding/clean room areas and related equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Delivers controlled substance medications to patient care areas according to Pharmacy guidelines and standards operating procedures. Replenishes medication carts and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Checks and maintains inventory levels; checks for expired/unusable products and disposes of them properly.
  • Attains/maintains knowledge of all pharmacy computer systems, including electronic medical records (EMR), from the standpoint of a user of the system.
  • Performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies, procedures, performance improvement objectives, and environmental and infection control standards.
Work Experience
  • At least 2 years pharmacy-related experience required
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
Licenses And Certifications
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required
