Job summary

VCU Health's Cert Pharmacy Tech II aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric groups.

Under minimal supervision, the Cert Pharmacy Tech II performs the required duties of a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) II at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership

Qualifications

One year of previous pharmacy practice experience is required.
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR valid ExCPT certification by NHCA required for hire.
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
Clean criminal record (no felony, drug or pharmacy-related convictions, and no unresolved Board of Pharmacy actions).
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

Assist pharmacists in preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications.
Perform independent CPhT I duties with increased responsibilities in medication coordination, compounding, and packaging.
Maintain medications and supplies for compounding according to USP requirements (non-sterile, sterile, hazardous).
Repackage bulk medications into unit-dosed forms and manage patient-specific doses.
Provide staffing support across shifts/sites and train other team members.
