Job summary

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to perform a variety of technical and clerical duties under supervision.

You will prepare, label, and deliver medications, perform pharmacy calculations, and assist with sterile products as trained. Strong communication and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems; strong customer service skills.
• Graduate of accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or 240-hour employer-based training or 1,000 hours of experience.
• Competent in 3 of 8 areas within 6 months: First Dose Unit Dose, Cart Fill, General IV Preparation, Omnicell, Decentral, ATP, Chemotherapy IV Preparation, TPN Preparation.
• Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board; or PTCB/ExCPT certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepares, packages, labels, and delivers medications after pharmacist/technician check.
• Perform pharmaceutical calculations to ensure correct doses.
• Aseptically prepares IV admixtures and sterile products when trained.
• Triages pharmacy calls and resolves issues as able.
• Inspects and maintains medication supply throughout the facility and replaces outdated meds.

Summary

Department: Inpatient Hospital
FTE: 1.0 (80 hours per pay period)
Workdays: Monday - Friday and every 3rd weekend
Shift(s): day/evening
Shift Length: 8 hours
Other: 3 vacancies

Purpose of this position: Performs a variety of technical and clerical pharmacy duties allowed by law under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Fosters and maintains a positive image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepares, packages, labels, and delivers medications after they are checked by a registered pharmacist, intern, or qualified technician checker
• Correctly performs pharmaceutical calculations to ensure correct doses are dispensed
• Aseptically prepares IV admixtures and other sterile products as requested (when trained)
• Triages pharmacy phone calls and resolves issues as able
• Inspect and maintain medication supply throughout the facility; removes and replaces outdated medications from the pharmacy, clinics, nursing stations, and Automated Dispensing Cabinets
• Possess strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and promote a positive team environment
• Demonstrate good decision making skills, problem solving techniques, and prioritize multiple tasks
• Maintain and improve pharmacy workflow
• Perform patient charging and other pharmacy financial activities when needed
• Use and maintain pharmacy equipment, medication rooms, and work areas according to approved procedures
• Perform additional pharmacy technician duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED
• Preferred Qualifications: Excellent computer skills; knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems; graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or a 240‑hour employer-based Technician training Program or 1,000 hours of Pharmacy experience
• Knowledge/Skills: Ability to communicate with other employees and patients; excellent customer service skills; ability to use a computer and associated programs; ability to understand oral and written instructions; ability to learn and apply pharmacy procedures; some skill in record keeping
• Must be competent in 3 out of 8 areas within 6 months of hire: First Dose Unit Dose, Cart Fill, General IV Preparation, Omnicell, Decentral, ATP, Chemotherapy IV Preparation, TPN Preparation
• License/Certification: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board; PTCB or ExCPT pharmacy tech certification within 1 year of hire, paid for by employee; or Current Intern License with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
