You will work under a registered pharmacist to perform technical and clerical duties, ensuring accurate prescription processing, labeling, and patient care support in an in-person clinical setting.

The role requires state registration, compliance with Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules, and the ability to triage orders, manage insurance and prior authorizations, and help maintain pharmacy

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Current MN Pharmacy Technician registration.
  • PTCB or ExCPT certification within 1 year, paid by employee.
  • Alternate: Intern license with MN Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones for pharmacy and direct calls to proper personnel.
  • Prepackage, prepare, label, and hand out prescriptions after pharmacist review.
  • Maintain cash registers, credit card machines, and cash deposit reports.
  • Stock inventory and remove expired medications regularly.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and pick up orders as scheduled.
  • Enter outpatient prescriptions and document patient drug histories.
  • Triages orders, priorities, and notifies pharmacist as needed.
  • Coordinate ordering and delivery of medications, supplies, and equipment.
  • Document in EMR and track patient interactions per specialty practices.
  • Perform calculations to determine correct doses using weight.

JOB DETAILS Department: Brooklyn Park Clinic Pharmacy FTE: 1.0(80 hours per pay period) Workdays: Monday - Friday and every 4th weekend Shift(s): Days Shift Length: 8 hours Location: In-Person Other: Bilingual Spanish/English preferred Purpose of this position: Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel
  • Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies
  • Prepackages, prepares, labels, and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist
  • Maintains cash registers, credit card machines, and reporting for cash transactions
  • Prepares daily deposits for the cashier’s office
  • Bills and credits patient medications
  • Stocks inventory in Pharmacy
  • Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications
  • Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled
  • Files prescriptions and reports
  • Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion
  • Enters outpatient prescriptions
  • Obtains and records patient drug histories
  • Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders, and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate
  • Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight
  • Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order
  • Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed
  • Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols
  • Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs
  • Compounding medications as per Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations
  • Responsible for safe and careful handling of chemotherapeutic medications
  • Coordinates ordering and delivery of medications, supplies, and equipment to patients and clinical areas as requested
  • Completes intake process for mail service, specialty, transplant, and limited distribution pharmacy patients including new patient enrollment, insurance verification, and medication refill and delivery schedule
  • Documents in the EMR or other database applicable patient interactions according to specialty pharmacy practices
  • Performs patient tracking, processing of patient specialty medication claims, customer service, issue resolution and/or escalation
  • Requests and follows up on refill requests, processes Medicare and transplant claims and works on high level adjudicated claims
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to: back up phone coverage, data collection, reporting, process improvement, and maintenance of patient education materials
QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GE
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board
  • PTCB or ExCPT pharmacy tech certification within 1 year of date of hire, paid for by employee
  • OR
  • Current Intern License with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems
  • Insurance and Billing Experience
  • Experience working with specialty medications in a health system setting
  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or a 240-hour employer-based Technician training Program or 1,000 hours of Pharmacy experience
