Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Hospital seeks a Pharmacy Tech trainee to support inpatient and outpatient settings, preparing patient orders and delivering medications across departments.

You will train in inpatient, outpatient, and medication history areas, and complete 400 hours of training to obtain PTCB certification within one year. This role includes a rotating schedule and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Registered with the State of Iowa as a Tech in Training prior to starting employment.
• Must complete 400 hours of training and obtain PTCB certification within one year.

Responsibilities

• Attend training sessions as outlined in the Certified Pharmacy Technician curriculum.
• Adhere to attendance requirements.
• Receive training in inpatient, outpatient, and medication history pharmacy areas and observe other duties.
• Prepare patient medication orders in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms and other areas.
• Charge and credit to the patient and restock medications/IVs.
• Utilize automated dispensing systems and restock as needed.
• Check medication expiration dates and perform unit inspections.

As a Pharmacy Tech At MercyOne, You Will

• Attend didactic and clinical training sessions as outlined in the Certified Pharmacy Technician course curriculum
• Adhere to attendance requirements
• Receive training in the inpatient, outpatient, and medication history pharmacy departments and observe other specialized pharmacy technician duties
• Prepare patient medication orders in outpatient and inpatient pharmacy settings
• Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas
• Charge and credit to the patient and restock usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy
• Utilize and restock automated medication dispensing machines (robot, acudose, and pyxis)
• Check medication expiration dates and complete assigned unit inspections

Schedule

• 40 hours a week
• Varied shifts

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Registered with the State of Iowa as a Tech in Training prior to starting employment
• Pharmacy Tech Trainee will be required to complete the 400 hours of training program and obtain PTCB certification within one year
