Job Summary: The Pharmacy student works under the supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Supervisors, primarily responsible for preparing and distributing medications and IV solutions in accordance with policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop familiarity with medications, including names, administration methods, dosages, and conversions. Distribute medications using automated cabinetry, monitor discharge and transfer lists, and deliver medications with appropriate labels.
  • Repackage tablets, capsules, and liquids; operate re-packaging machines; handle controlled substances and investigational drugs; prepare topical and irrigation solutions.
  • Restock pharmacy stock and automated cabinetry; check for expired medications; maintain stock levels in various pharmacy areas.
  • Prepare and assemble drugs and solutions for compounding, including aseptic techniques for parenteral admixtures.
  • Refill OR kits, prepare related items using aseptic technique, maintain OR pharmacy stock, and complete related documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Vocational or Technical training; completed 2nd year of Pharmacy degree at an accredited college.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Student Intern.
  • 0-1 years of related experience.
  • Enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program, having completed at least year 2.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate web-based applications.

Competencies:

  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of standard pharmacy practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and demonstrate positive customer service.

Physical Nature of the Job: Light work involving exerting up to 20 pounds, standing for periods, and moving throughout the hospital campus.
