Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Pharmacy Student Intern to support the Department of Pharmacy under the supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Supervisors. The role emphasizes preparing and distributing medications and IV solutions, stocking supplies, and ensuring accurate labeling and dosage forms.

You will gain hands-on experience in aseptic technique, packaging, and compliance with hospital policies while progressing through year 2 of an accredited pharmacy program.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited pharmacy degree program and have completed year 2.
• Registration as Pharmacy Student Intern required.
• 0-1 years related work experience preferred.
• Basic familiarity with computers and web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Develops familiarity with medications, including generic and trade names, dosages, and conversions.
• Distributes meds using automated dispensing cabinetry and monitors discharge lists.
• Delivers medications with appropriate labels and prepares parenteral admixtures in laminar flow hood.
• Repackages tablets/capsules/liquids and assigns expiration dates per policy.
• Handles and distributes controlled substances and investigational drugs.
• Maintains OR pharmacy stock and completes related charging/documentation.
• Prepares worklists and assembles drugs and solutions for compounding.

Job description

The Pharmacy student is under the general supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist while working. He/she is under the specific supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisors and Clinical Pharmacist Supervisors for the technical functions in the operation of the Department of Pharmacy. The primary responsibility in accordance to established policies and procedures is to prepare and distribute medications and IV solutions.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Develops familiarity with medications: generic and trade names, methods of administration, usual dosages, usual dosage schedules and conversion between metric and apothecary systems.

2. Distributes automated dispensing cabinetry with appropriate dosage forms and monitors discharge and transfer lists and removes and transfers bins appropriately.

3. Delivers medications along with appropriate labels.

4. Repackages tablets, capsules and liquid medication, operate re-packaging machine and assigns expiration dates as per policy.

5. Handles and distributes controlled substances and investigational drugs.

6. Prepares topical and irrigation solutions.

7. Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing cabinetry.

8. Checks for expired medications in the pharmacy and in the automated dispensing cabinetry. Inventories and maintains stock levels in the unit dose area and the satellites.

9. Prepares and initiates worklist and labels and assembles drugs and solutions to be compounded.

10. Initiates procedure and demonstrates aseptic technique in compounding of parenteral admixtures in laminar flow hood.

Refills OR kits. Prepares through aseptic technique OR related items, cardioplegia solutions and syringes.

1. Maintains stock in the OR pharmacy. Completes all OR related charging/documentation.

Required Qualifications:

1. Vocational or Technical training in Complted 2nd ty in Pharmacy degree prgrm at accredited College of Pharmacy required.
2. Registration Pharmacy Student Intern required.
3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
4. Must be enrolled in an accredited pharmacy degree program and must have completed year 2.
5. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus

Pay Range:

$21.00 - $21.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
